State of the Que-Ettes

As new president of this auxiliary, I want to share with you how we have aimed to meet our mission statement.  Our events and activities have always been to meet our mission of helping the men of Pi Omega, the community and fostering friendship among the wives.  Time goes by fast and sometimes we forget all we’ve done. Here’s a list of what we have done in our 2018/2019 year:

  • Members along with the brothers enjoyed a Chat & Chew at Colin’s Seafood & Grill  (Sept/2018)
  • A few members participated in the Virtual Blood Drive with Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Gamma Omicron Omega Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity (Oct 2018)
  • The Membership Committee, chaired by Quette Tamera Mason, updated the roster  as a result of a questionnaire mailed to all members
  • The Jazz Ma Tazz event on Oct. 27, 2018, was a success.  As a result of ticket sales, donations, and 50/50 raffle, $3,203 was raised to benefit the Que-Ettes Textbook Scholarship Fund
  • A $50 Visa Gift Card was presented to Brother Ryan Robinson, Omega Man of the Year, at the
    Pi December 4th fraternity meeting
  • A $500 donation was made to Pi Omega at their December 4th fraternity meeting
  • Our Christmas Holiday Luncheon was held immediately after our December 15th meeting.  Our members and prospective members enjoyed an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship.
  • Members assisted and donated delicious desserts of all kinds at the chapter’s Community Thanksgiving celebration.
  • The Social Action Committee, chaired by Quette Stephanie Brooks, began their work in December 2018 with a donation of pajamas for Kammie’s Jammies.  As of today, this committee has completed the following projects:
    January 2019—Roberta’s House—games for children
    March 2019  Agape House—375 school writing supplies & My Sister’s Place—100 containers of applesauce & House of Ruth—tubs of baby wipes and diapers
    April 2019—The Book Thing—1,215 books, magazines, videos
    May 2019—Bon Secours Women’s Resource & Day Shelter—a donation of undergarments
    June 2019—Women Behind the Community—donated suits, blouses, sweaters for women
    entering the workforce
  • Membership Committee provided a guest speaker for our January meeting.  The theme was
    Enhancing Your Spirit & Well Being with Jennifer Ayana Harrison, Health/Wellness Coach/Advocate who spoke on how to take better care of ourselves
  • As a result of an anonymous donor, we launched our long-awaited website in January 2019.  Our address is www.que-ettesofpiomega.org
  • The Publicity Committee, chaired by Quette Laura Byrd, secured and collected patrons & ads for the 68th Annual Mardi Gras Souvenir Journal.  Our organization secured $609 in patrons and $650 in ads.
  • We unveiled at our March 16th meeting  our beautiful, custom-made “Que-Ettes of Pi Omega” plaque which was created by Brother George Brooks
  • President Rosalind Johnson presented in February 2019 a check for $2,000 to the Pi Omega Foundation from the Que-Ettes Textbook Scholarship Fund.
  • Membership Committee provided a guest speaker for our February meeting.  Since it was Black History Month, Brother Wali Gill presented an interesting history of Pi Omega’s influence in Baltimore especially Morgan State College
  • We completed our first yearly pledge of $365 for the Centennial of Pi Omega campaign.  Our donation will assist the chapter in their goal to pay off mortgage by 2021—the 100th anniversary of
    Pi Omega’s charter.
  • The Publicity Committee placed an ad in the2nd Annual Quetillion Souvenir Journal
  • The Program Committee, chaired by Quette Tamera Mason, planned a Paint & Sip event at the center after our May 18th meeting.  Everyone had a fun time releasing their “inner artist”
  • The Membership Committee designed a beautiful shirt for our members to be worn at our various activities and events.  The shirt was designed by Quettes Cherri Cragway and Tamera Mason

We’ve had a busy and very productive year.  I want to thank the brothers of for their support during this first year of my administration.  I look forward to working with you in the 2019/2020 year which will be full of surprises!
